“Lead by example. Work in silence. Let your game speak.”

Straight out of Omaha, Nebraska, Tyrell Carroll has made his mark as one of the most decorated and consistent guards to ever come out of the Midwest. Known for his lightning-quick first step, high basketball IQ, and fearless approach to competition, Carroll has built his career on hard work, discipline, and an unshakable belief in himself — earning respect at every level from high school to the pros.

Early Life & High School Journey

Tyrell’s basketball story started in Omaha’s competitive basketball scene, where his natural talent quickly began to separate him from the pack. He made his mark early on at Omaha North High School, where he emerged as one of the top guards in the area. During his junior season (2016–2017), Carroll averaged 15 points per game, establishing himself as a reliable scorer and floor general who could control the pace and create opportunities for teammates.

For his senior season, Tyrell transferred to Millard South High School, where his game went to another level. He became the heart of the Patriots’ offense, averaging 18 points, 6 assists, and 6 rebounds per game, while recording four double-doubles and two triple-doubles — a testament to his all-around skill set. His leadership, consistency, and versatility didn’t go unnoticed. He was named to the Lincoln Journal Star Nebraska Super State team and earned All-Nebraska Second Team honors, cementing his place as one of the best players in the state.

Tyrell’s combination of speed, vision, and toughness made him a matchup nightmare in high school — the type of guard who could score from all three levels, defend multiple positions, and elevate everyone around him. That energy and leadership carried directly into the next chapter of his basketball journey.

College Career: Missouri Western State University

After high school, Carroll took his talents to Missouri Western State University, where he quickly became the engine that made the team go. From his freshman season, he showed poise beyond his years, averaging 14 points, 4 assists, and 4 rebounds per game, earning recognition across the MIAA conference as one of the top young guards in the region.

By his sophomore year, Carroll had evolved into the Griffons’ leader on both ends of the floor. He averaged 17 points, 6 assists, and 4 rebounds, once again earning All-MIAA and All-Defensive Team honors. His ability to score efficiently, distribute the ball, and lock in defensively made him one of the most well-rounded players in the conference. Coaches praised his work ethic, leadership, and ability to make his teammates better — traits that would define his career.

Even in a challenging junior season impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, Tyrell continued to dominate. He posted 17 points, 5 assists, and 5 rebounds per game, earning All-MIAA honors yet again and being named to the NABC All-Central District Team. Despite the uncertainty of the season, he remained consistent, steady, and competitive — setting the standard for his teammates both on and off the court.

By the time he finished his career at Missouri Western, Carroll had etched his name into the record books. He left as one of the most productive players in program history, holding multiple all-time records:

  • Most steals in MWSU history: 149

  • Most assists in MWSU history: 373

  • Most points in MWSU history: 1,373

  • Most field goals made in MWSU history: 500

Those numbers tell only part of the story — his leadership, determination, and impact on the program extended far beyond the stat sheet. Tyrell helped reshape the culture at MWSU, setting a standard for excellence that continues to influence the program today.

Finishing Strong at Angelo State University

For his senior season, Tyrell transferred to Angelo State University, competing in the always-tough Lone Star Conference. Despite being new to the program, he wasted no time making an impact. Averaging 14 points and 4 assists per game, he became one of the most dependable two-way guards in the league. His defensive intensity and ability to read passing lanes earned him All-Lone Star Conference and All-Defensive Team honors.

He also ranked #3 all-time in most steals in a single season at Angelo State, a stat that perfectly captures his aggressive, anticipatory defensive style. Whether running the offense, knocking down shots, or locking down opposing guards, Tyrell brought leadership and energy that every coach dreams of having on the floor.

Professional Career: Finland & the ABA

After college, Carroll’s game translated seamlessly to the professional level. He began his pro career overseas with Finland PEU Basket, where he quickly became one of the league’s most exciting players. Averaging 25 points, 5 assists, and 5 rebounds per game, he proved that his scoring touch and playmaking ability could dominate anywhere in the world. His performance overseas showcased his adaptability — whether running the pick-and-roll, attacking in transition, or creating shots in tight spaces, Tyrell thrived as the team’s leader and primary playmaker.

Back in the United States, Tyrell joined 402 Elite, an ABA program based out of Nebraska. With his signature confidence and elite-level guard play, he became a cornerstone of the team — earning ABA All-Star honors and helping lead 402 Elite to an Elite 8 appearance. His leadership, poise, and ability to raise his team’s level of play continue to make him one of the most respected guards in the ABA.
